The OBSTACLE is the PATH

I’m feeling kinda zen tonight … thinking about some recent events in my personal life and how every little action has an equal reaction – good or bad. Everything that we do and everything that is done around us works together in some crazy, miraculous, unknowing way to create our path. Sometimes it feels like some days are just – beyond what we can handle. We get soaked by a passing car driving through a puddle, we accidentally make a left when we should have made a right, we hit the snooze button one too many times on the alarm clock – everything happens for a reason.

Case in point? My husband recently walked into his work and literally was told “we’re really sorry, but corporate has decided your specific position is no longer required at this location” and handed him his last paycheck (in cash, no less) and said sayonara. Really, this happened not even a month ago. I was angry and bitter, and with four kids, two dogs, a turtle, and regular every-day bills – a bit freaked out. I won’t lie, I totally had a snotty-crying break down … wondering if we’d made a mistake getting out of the military last year, wondering what we could have done to deserve such bad luck (or karma) … But it really lit a fire under my toosh to really put myself out there and this last month, I’ve been swamped with work (mostly boudoir with The Secret Pin-Up) and opportunities to study with some of the best photographers in the country (hello, Julie Paisley Photography in June and Kandis of Wish Photography in July!). And you know what? This has been a stellar month for me, all because I thought I had a huge obstacle in my path.

And, not to mention, because of this hiccup in our plans – my husband applied for a job he normally might not of applied for because of getting laid off … and you know what? He nailed the job! If he hadn’t of been laid off, he wouldn’t have zigged from the path and applied for the job – and missed an opportunity of a lifetime. Did you read that? AN OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME was the DIRECT RESULT of a really crappy situation!

So why am I sharing this with you? Because, I want you to know – sometimes, bad things happen to good people, but we can’t let these bad things stand in our path. We can’t let them make us afraid – we have to learn to zig and zag with the obstacles that life throws out at us because THAT, my dear friends, is YOUR PATH.

The Fogle Family | Colorado Springs Family Photography

Meet the Fogle family! We had a very chilly session right after a little winter storm rolled through the Springs, but we still had fun. Gabrielle is soon deploying overseas and I am so honored to capture some family memories for her before she goes!:)

Stylized Shoot :: Christian + Tom’s Retro Romance

I absolutely adore these two … Christian emailed me last summer about doing a shoot right before her husband, Tom, deploys overseas with his unit … She wanted to do a retro romantic military shoot – and I absolutely JUMPED at the chance! Poor thing though, the day we did this session the temperature dropped down into the mid-20s and she was certainly not dressed for that kind of weather. But! It was amazing nonetheless because these two just … adore each other. It made my heart happy to see them together!
